For over two years, Crystal & Kevin Epps navigated challenges and uncertainties, starting with no clear budget or plans for Peace on the Pond. Their commitment demanded profound faith and consistency, especially when Kevin had to dedicate himself to the project for a year by himself while Crystal managed operations in California.
The Epps’ encountered inner reflections that reshaped their marriage and strengthened their relationship with God. Facing doubts and adversity, Kevin recalls moments when he contemplated giving up. Yet, despite financial struggles and a significant career shift from a six-figure income in corporate America, faith propelled them to persevere. They understood that while the devil might whisper discouragement, divine purpose was far greater.
This period catalyzed significant personal healing for both. Kevin confronted past traumas that he had buried and learned resilience; together, they wrote letters to their grievances, burning them as a symbolic act of release. The journey of Peace on the Pond was much more than a business, which is exactly why Peace on the Pond is so much more than just a retreat venue.
The experiences they had fostered a deeper connection to their mission of creating a healing environment at Peace on the Pond. What seemed daunting at first became a testament to Crystal & Kevin’s faith, perseverance, and shared vision.
Home is where the heart is...
The joyous ending to long journey was a profound family gathering at the newly completed Peace on the Pond. A key moment for Kevin occurred while cutting down a tree that had grown too close to the main deck — inside its limb, he discovered a heart-shaped form, a sign that seemed to brighten as he worked. Each suite in Peace on the Pond now contains a piece of that tree, symbolizing love and unity, which served as a direct reminder of their purpose and the divine support they felt throughout the construction.
The entire family had to step-up, fostering closer bonds and deep discussions about overcoming challenges. As Crystal and Kevin leaned into each other for support, a family-wide commitment to resilience emerged. They encouraged one another to dig deep during tough times, pushing through doubts and fear thanks to moments that grounded them, such as the arrival of a red cardinal. The cardinal became a special symbol for them—an agreement that whenever they encountered one, they would embrace and reaffirm their love for each other, redirecting any tension back into affection.
The grand reveal of Peace on the Pond to family and friends brought tears and joy. The previous owner's widow, who had watched her family's legacy flourish there for generations, walked through the finished property and broke down crying. “Thank you for keeping the original structure of the home,” she said. “This place is beautiful.” Her acknowledgment highlighted the venue's place in a broader history, and the Epps’ felt honored to now be a part of it’s journey.
The Epps' family had an experience that transcended mere celebration. There was laughter, storytelling, and even a baptism, showcasing the retreat's transformative power. Kevin & Crystal marveled at the love and joy filling the space, recognizing that their labor had not just created a beautiful venue, but a sacred place for connection, healing, and new beginnings. There, amidst nature and family ties, they found a home where past wounds were healed and future memories would flourish.
